La SNCF confirme pour 2010 un TGV Perpignan-Figueres à minima

Le président de la SNCF confirme une information restée en suspens en 2009 au sujet du lancement d’un TGV à minima entre Perpignan et Figueres. Dans une interview publiée ce vendredi par le journal sud-catalan El Periódico de Catalunya, Guillaume Pepy, présent ce même jour dans la capitale catalane, affirme sans équivoque que «Le TGV passera à Figueres avant la fin de l’année », grâce à une solution de « transition », lancée en décembre prochain, préalable à l’ouverture de la ligne Perpignan-Barcelone, qu’il promet pour « 2012 ». Le tronçon international de la nouvelle ligne Perpignan-Figueres, totalement achevé, sera ainsi emprunté par 18 TGV quotidiens, 9 dans chaque sens, avec un relais à Figueres assuré par des trains traditionnels de la société espagnole RENFE. M. Pepy, en pourparlers avec la RENFE, annonce une « décision finale » courant février, attendue lors d’une entrevue prévue avec son homologue espagnol, Teófilo Serrano. Dans l’actualité, RENFE a communiqué cette semaine son intention d’acquérir des trains plus grands pour cette même ligne, avec une réduction des prix des billets en comparaison aux tarifs habituel des TGV. M. Pepy, qui avance sans hésiter « Il faut effacer la frontière géographique », confirme également l’ouverture de la ligne Perpignan-Montpellier en 2020, pour une vitesse de 300 à 320 km/h.

Does anyone know if the work on new line between Figueras and Barcelona includes plans for a station/stop at Girona airport? The work on the new rail route is pretty close to the airport but I suppose all trains may just go hurtling past.

I rather fancy not. I think I read somewhere that Gerona is to be bypassed.

I don't recall that sensible option being on the list Helen.
On the same vein I cannot understand why there is not an autoroute exit for Perpignan airport.

There, I agree with you Kathy! That or the only arrival from England shouldn't arrive at rush hour!!! :lol: :lol: :roll:

I could be wrong, but I seem to think that, when the TGV project was started, Gerona airport was nowhere near as significant as it is now.

The new Figueras station is well out of the town, so I imagine they will do a shuttle service from there to the airport.

The TGV Perpignan - Figueres scheduled to commence 12 December 2010 has been delayed to an undetermined future date.
