Can anyone point me to a local bus company that runs between towns, I have the info for in and around perpignan but i'm looking for how to get to andorra, figueres, girona barcelona, carcassonne and le perthus obviously not all in the one day!! These are the places i want to get to in my first couple of weeks in June. I've found the train timetables but i can't find a kind of city to city coach company like you'd find in Irl, is there such a thing?

There's nothing long distance between major towns/cities like National Express or similar in France, at least, not at this end except perhaps Eurolines.

A bus Perpignan to Andorra would mean a nightstop (if you want to see anything) as it would be impossible in a single day unless it turned round and came straight back! Otherwise, it's either train, car or "day trip coaches" as far as I'm aware.

Thanks for that, it seems you can only go to another country though! Quite frustrating but handy for getting to spain!

I guess that if the locals had wanted "long" distance buses they would exist. The PO - and probably many other departments - hasn't woken up to scheduled longhaul buses - as for example are used on Crete mainly by the locals themselves - many of whom can afford only a donkey as local transport. Perhaps with fuel prices rocketing, there'll be a revolution in France in this direction? Someone should whisper "Greyhound" in Sarko's ear!

Hi all :)

Hopefully when we get to the PO later this summer, we hope to take advantage of the local transport offer.
As i understand it, its 2 euro's return anywhere in the region.
We are going to be staying in Argeles, so can anyone help please :D
Do i have to contact the main office :?:
1. Can i get a bus timetable sent to me
2. Map of bus stops
3. Do you pay on the bus, or is there a pass you have to buy.
3. How reliable are these buses, we don't want to be stranded somewhere far out, late in the day
Many thanks ;)

Cheers Sav :)

Hi Sav, we're great users of the buses especially with this 2 Euro return ticket!

If you click on www.cg66.com and then select Routes Transports from the tabs at the top, then select Voyageurs from the drop down list on the left, you'll get all the local bus timetables.

Have fun!

Sorry, didn't finish answering your questions!..............

We've always found them very reliable and punctual and the drivers are happy chappies (at least the ones on the Ceret to Perpignan route are!).

You pay when you get on (have always only ever bought a single, don't know if they're geared up for return tickets - and oh yes, they MIGHT be a bit grumpy if you give them a 20 Euro note for 2 x 1 Euro fares).

When you download the timetables, you'll see the bus stops are clearly listed but if you aren't sure where they are I imagine the local tourist info office would tell you. Basically, you can always come back from the stop opposite the one you arrived at; they are proper bus stops and usually have the timetables attached to them.

Hi Polly & Steve :)

Thanks, i've seen that map before, must be the same one.
We want to get over to Rennes le Chateau as well, but the offer still carries you to Quillan if i remember rightly.
I think it was Pooky who used it recently.
Bit confused by this
http://www.cg66.com/routes_transports/t ... index.html
Are they the only routes available, or can you catch it anywhere :?:
Ideally we would like to pick it up from Taxo.
I assume you would have to change buses, depending on where you were going :!:
Too many questions eh

Cheers Sav :)

Seems to be quite a from-to/to-from choice within the PO!

Bus fares

Post by Helena »

Bus fare is only 1 EUR per person. Same bus ticket is valid for 2 hours. So you can change busess too, which is amazinly cheap deal.

Hi Helena :)

Now does this apply on all the buses in the area :?:
Not sure what you mean about the 2 hours :?
If we are travelling a long distance, will we need to pay again on route

If you enter a bus within 2 hours of ticket purchase (no matter how long is that drive) you will be fine.

Hi all :)

We plan to use the 1 euro local buses on our trip out this year
Its going to be more economical to purchase a weekly 8 euro pass
Can someone tell me where we can buy these tickets, when we are in the PO.
Plus does the week start from the day of purchase.
Many thanks

Sorry i have not replied sooner Sav.

Eldest asked a bus driver about the weekly pass, he said he did not know and she should ask at the office! bit strange that seeing as he is the driver and the conductor thus the one checking bus passes and tickets

So there is you answer, don't know and phone the cg66 bus office!

Funnily enough, I'm just writing something about this.
According to their new site, it is available
http://www.cg66.fr/252-les-bus-departementaux.htm.
Will ring and check.

No problem opas :)

I have been in touch with them & they have given me some details
The coastal route is not available now, so i will have to pop into local tourist offices for more info i think, but you can download some from their site.
Still not sure where i can buy these tickets, i don't think the bus driver would be able to sell weekly passes.
Does anyone know if there is an alternative bus service, that travels down the coast ?

Cheers Sav :)

The reply that I got is as follows....

Single, weekly, and monthly tickets can be bought at
Les bus du Conseil Général (on the bus)
La gare routière départementale (bus station in Perps)
La direction des Transports
Les bureaux des entreprises de Transport (Transport offices - dont know where)

The yearly ticket can be bought at
La gare routière départementale (bus station in Perps)
La direction des Transports
Les bureaux des entreprises de Transport (Transport offices - dont know where)

The lady I spoke to seems to think that they are all still available.
Week (hebdomadaire) at 8€, a month (mensuel) at 30€ or a year (annuel) at 180€.
