International Travel Certificate for entry into UK

Post by alan »

The UK has revised its entry requirements with travellers from France now needing to self certify that they are not suffering coronavirus symptoms or have been in contact with a confirmed case within 14 days preceding travel (the International Travel Certificate) see https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france

I'm not sure this is correct, Alan
Anyone travelling in to the UK has to complete a Public Health Passenger Locator form, online, less than 48 hours before travelling. This has been the case for a number of weeks now.

When you're travelling into France from the UK by air or sea you're asked to self-certify your fitness to travel, by way of a sworn statement saying that you have no symptoms of COVID 19. This isn't new - I flew into Carcassonne with Ryanair three weeks ago and the form to complete was made available by Ryanair as part of the booking process. (The passport guy did look at it -but just handed it back to me, so I'm not sure how rigorously it's enforced.)

I think the link you posted is just a tweak to the existing guidance which gov.uk had already published and relates to people travelling TO France, other than from it.

Hi Helen

I replied to your post yesterday but my reply seems to have gone astray. Basically, the change I mentioned was being reported on the internet late Friday / Saturday. For instance, see Reuters, “Travelers from France to UK must self-certify no coronavirus symptons”: https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-healt ... KKBN25H2SX

I wanted to confirm this for myself on a Government site and I gave the link to what I found in my original post: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france . At the beginning of the actual document there is a summary referring to an update on 21 August and describing the update as, “Revised entry requirements with travellers needing to self certify that they are not suffering coronavirus symptoms or have been in contact with a confirmed case within 14 days preceding travel”.

Basically, when we next travel we shall take with us signed International Travel Certificates in both French and English in case they are asked for at either end.

Reuters have now published a correction to their report, a link to which I gave in my last post - see now:

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-healt ... KKBN25H2SX

The whole situation seems very confused and confusing. So we will certainly carry signed ITCs in both French and English when we next travel.

The Government has now revised its Guidance today, 23 August, as follows:

"Revised entry requirements with travellers to France needing to self certify that they are not suffering coronavirus symptoms or have been in contact with a confirmed case within 14 days preceding travel".

What a shambles!!!

Please see this report:

https://www.connexionfrance.com/French- ... for-France

For what it's worth in connection with our flight to Perpignan on 26 July, no-one (Ryanair nor anyone else included) asked for an ITC at any stage, including making the booking, checking in, at the gate nor on entry into France.

When replying to you earlier, I almost wrote that Reuters had got it wrong - but it seemed a bit presumptuous to accuse an authoritative news agency of such a thing.

But in their defence, it was easy to do. The gov.uk site isn't the easiest to keep track of - they issue updates, but it isn't always clear what, in fact, has been updated.

We have a flight to Perpignan on 1 September, which I doubt we shall use because of the existing quarantine restrictions in the UK and the imminent ones in France. We have just received a reminder from Ryanair, inevitably trying to sell things, but which also gives links to necessary documents including the ITC form in English. If we do fly, as mentioned before, we would take both English and French versions in order to be on the safe side.
