Perpignan to Barcelona
Anybody got any idea how to get to Barcelona (el prat) airport from Perpignan, i will not be driving. So apart from the more practical ways such as walk there or swim along the coast, id appreciate some ideas.

I think the best is the TGV to Figueres and then change to slow Spainsh train to Barcelona. You can change for the airport train at Passeig de Gracia or Sants. Have a look on the Renfe website for times.

getting to el prat
you could get the frogbus to girona airport
then the bus from girona to Barcelona Estacio d' Autobusos Barcelona Nord
get the metro Metro Arc De Triomf from the bus station to Placa de Catalunya and then the airport bus Aerobus - Express Bus Service
I have done it several times and with the ryanair flights from girona being cut will be doing it more frequently
have a look at http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com

Have a look at the site www.perpicat.com who go to Barcelona airport from Perpignan, Canet, Argeles and one or two other pick ups. There have however been mutterings of unreliability I believe on here in previous postings. I was going to use them but ended up driving!!

Re: getting to el prat
Good evening Joe,
My husband is also a regular traveller (a weekender fo/from Perpignan/Gerona Stansted so far !) but considering other alternatives thanks to Gerona wipe-out. How long does the trip Barcelona Airport to Perpignan take ? Is it really "doable" on a week-end basis ?
Are there any other regulars out there who would be considering sharing the cost of a hired car Fri to Mon for example to go from Barcelona/Toulouse/Montpellier to Perpinan ?
Over to you !
Eliane

Barcelona-Figueres
Apparently there is a train from Barcelona to Figueres from where I will collect my partner who used to arrive from Stansted to Girona. Figueres is not quite as near as Boulou but not too bad. O'Leary lost my partner as a customer because Easyjet does the trip for the same price if not cheaper from Gatwick to BCN at more convenient hours. Gatwick suits us better anyway. Arrival in BCN at 16.40 - much better than arriving in the middle of the night at Girona.
We understand there is a bus from the airport to the station in Barc. The train takes about 1 3/4 h to Figueres. Obviously all this has to be tried and verified.

Re: Perpignan to Barcelona
So far for me it looks like (1) the Frog bus to Girona Airport, then a bus to Barcelona and maybe a taxi from there to the airport. (2) the 8:57 train from Perpignan to Barca then either a taxi to the airport or walk the few hundred metres and get a metro/shuttle to the airport.lonesome paddy wrote:Anybody got any idea how to get to Barcelona (el prat) airport from Perpignan, i will not be driving. Just check the bus times from Girona to Barca. They are not as regular as you would expect and vary depending on the day.

options to barcelona airport fromperpignan
just noticed that frogbus are now stopping at girona railway station so the train to BCN airport is a viable option both ways - see their website for timetables
just did a dummy run from figueras to bcn airport very easy cost €26.90 return. make sure you catch the fast train (caught 7.10 and arrive at 9.04) go straight to passeig de gracia not sants, stay on the platform and catch the airport train @ 2 minutes and 32 minute past the hour and takes about 25 minutes to terminal 2. very painless.
there is also a bus from figueres that goes 3 times a day direct to T1 and T2 dep from figueres dep 4.45 - arr 7.00;dep 10.30 arr 12.45;dep 17.30 arr 20.00 and the return leg from T2 dep 10.30 arr fig 10.30;dep 14.00 arr 16.30;dep 21.15 arr 23.45
the coach station is next to the train station
there is parking at the figueras station which cost €6 a day with proof of train ticket
hope that helps
I am also looking at the train went to raileurope office in piccadilly last week and there are train that cost £118 return london perpignan - available three months in advance. if you are lucky!
add up all the hassle coach, trains, driving, parking and security delays it might be tempting to let the train take the strain. Liquids and/or hand baggage linitation are not a problem!

you can get the ticket figueres to Barcelona return for 26,90 but be warned for the return journey you need to get a pass ticket to get through the barrier at the airport. Free of charge they just stamp your original train ticket and give an extra ticket to get through the barrier.
Apparently the barrier does not know who you are even though it says ida y vuelta on the ticket

That's interesting Joe. It must have changed since I took the train, as there was a little ticket hutch just before you got onto the platform at the airport, where you could buy your ticket, or the return ticket I had from Figs just beeped me through the turnstiles. But the last time I did this trip was about three years ago, now I come to think of it!!

In case anyone is interested, we did the Perpignan/Barcelona airport trip yesterday via Frogbus from Perpignan TGV gare to Girona bus/rail station (effectively the same place, as the bus stops right opposite the train station entrance); then train (comfortable modern carriages, lots of legroom) from Girona to Barcelona Passeig de Gracia, Platform 1; then a local train (again quite new rolling stock) from the same platform out to the Airport. Where the walk is about 5 - 7 minutes to Terminal 2, the low cost airline terminal. The through ticket from Girona to Barcelona airport was just €8.20.
It was a very easy trip - a bit slow, with time to kill at Girona (cafe with basic food to while away the time) and Passeig stations (some seats on the platform, incoming trains clearly identified on the monitors) - but low stress.
