This is a sad period. I'm so sorry, Steve, to hear about your friend Chester. Try to remember all the good times you had, and all the happiness that you gave him.

In time I'll tell you a sweet story about a friend's cat which is buried in my garden. It'll give you a smile, but it can wait.

I'm so very sorry, Kate, to hear about little Bisou. She was a good friend who shared lots of fun and affection with you. She had a good life with you, and that's what's important. Bisou's now in that happy hunting ground where all good dogs go, and you're the richer for having loved and cared for h...

Car repairs

I never go to the big garages where you pay for the deep sofas, the air conditioning, the coffee and the smart hostesses, and where they make you wait longer than necessary in order to charge you more. I know an excellent mechanic in Corneilla, halfway between Alenya and Elne, a very pleasant young ...

I expect the local pub would say "eat more salt" (peanuts, crisps, etc) so that you get thirsty!

B lackduff ..................I want to ask why the veal is "bad". Within my village you can visit the veal being happy in the hills. Mom is still feeding their veal with her natural milk. I meant instead of buying "fruit" yogs. Personally I prefer plain, but if people need a sweetener......which we've been brought up to do ("give a thirsty baby boiled water with a little sugar", my mum used to suggest), then home-made jam or squashed fruit is a darned site better than E 120

So your chicken ate better and had more fresh air, it still ended up in your stomach! As Sue rightly said, it had a happy life before it was slaughtered, andf surely that is just the point. We've all got to die; what's important is the life we - and farm animals - live......Agreed? Helen

Sue, you're right. Free-range eggs are marked 0 FR. Caged birds' eggs are 3 FR. Legally there must be a notice in shops saying which eggs are free-range & which are from cages....it's usually written in tiny letters, so I always underline the notice in bright red lipstick! Advice:
Throw in a few "Ma foi..." and "Bof" and you'll sound very authentic. If you add "Purée" here & there you'll be taken for a genuine native of Perpignan.
(To be taken for a Toulousain use "Put***" and "Mer**" when you stop for breath)

Alcohol during pregnancy

With due respect, whatever the wine lobby may say, it is a fact that alcohol in any form, like tobacco, is detrimental to the child's health, the embryo being deprived of a fully developed liver whose one function is to eliminate toxins. At a pinch the limit is no more than one or two units of alcoh...
