Local Holiday, Friday 16th August ?

This Thursday, 15th, is Assumption and a Public Holiday. This afternoon, whilst in Argelès village, I noticed a sign on the door of Banque Populaire stating that the branch would be closed on Friday 16th for a Fête Locale.
Does anyone know what this is for?

Also, if possible what LNB do you use?

Not sure about your 'phone specifics but under "Operator Selection" select "Manual" and when it selects SFR, your provider, confirm selection. This should lock you in to SFR. Remember, if you do go to Spain, you will need to repeat the above and select "Automatic" which is, I suspect, where you are ...

Just for information, Boots are soon to be delivering to other destinations outside of the UK. If you click on the UK flag on the top of their home page tool bar there is a drop down list of the countries they will soon deliver to. You are then invited to sign up for an email alert that will advise ...

Restaurant Le Delos, Port Argelès

This has to be a record even for Argelès-sur-Mer! This restaurant opened on Monday 15th July in the Place du Nouveau Monde next to the Boulangerie du Port. Today, less than three weeks later, it has closed and is up for sale! I am aware that some of the local established restauranteurs have opened a...

If you are ordering any goods and the consignor uses GLS, be warned. The Perpignan Depot of GLS are next to useless even to the point that UPS and DHL will not sub-contract to them for local deliveries. They've just lost a delivery for us and it's not the first time either. The annoying thing is tha...

U.K. IP ADDRESS

There are various downloads that enable you to mask your French IP address and to present a U.K. IP address to the likes of BBC iPlayer etc. etc.
Do these work best with Windows or Linux (Ubuntu) operating systems?
I DO know that Expat Shield does not work with Mac OS so any tips please.

A "techie" friend in England has informed me of a major breach of Hotmail security especially where password strengths are not robust. I too would recommend Mozilla's Thunderbird. It's a good e-mail client especially if you already have a web-based e-mail address.
Try Mozilla's Firefox browser as well.
I have a MacBook Pro and use Firefox as well as Apple's Safari and use Thunderbird for my GMail address.

Hi Neil,
What download speed do you enjoy in Vernet les Bains?
It's important because well South of Perpignan, Broadband runs at a snail's pace sometimes which would disrupt your viewing. I believe HD TV needs at least 4mbps constantly.

Can you honestly expect the various Mairies, covering the area to the south of Perpignan, to approve satellite dishes of 180cm in diameter? I can only speak for Sony Bravias that DO work. You just re-tune them and the built-in Freeview tuner picks up the TNT channels.
