I'm a great fan of watching French TV with subtitles - over the years it's really helped increase my vocabulary, as well as being great for improving the 'ear' for listening/understanding French. Obviously grammar has its place, but so is the ability to understand/use spoken French.

Get the right package and the chances are you can get free international calls. I'm with Orange and have this- don't know about other providers.

Internet speed is very location dependent. For instance, even 10 years ago, I was able to get 8 Mbps. Today, there's plenty of talk about fibre. This link to Orange will give you an idea of the kind of packages available

Hi Karen, great to know that it worked out - and at an attractive price too. The only thing that puts me off is that 6am start!

Did the bus actually start its journey in Perpignan or was it en route from some where northwards?

And whereabouts in Barcelona did you get off?

I'm planning to buy a LHD car soonish....so far research has shown that, thanks to the strong pound/euro exchange rate, it is definitely cheaper to buy in France. But, to put that in context, that's for a new car; and a small one at that! I didn't set out considering a new car - but the price/mileag...

Eating Out in Barcelona - recommendations for lunch

I spotted this article recommending 10 restaurants for lunch in Barcelona, on the Guardian website. So far, I haven't tried any of them - but it looks a great list, so thought it was worth sharing the link. http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2015/jun/15/top-10-budget-restaurants-barcelona-for-lunch

I am very intrigued by the range of content your website says will be available. Then there's documentaries, kids programm...

New bus service

Mega bus starts a new service tomorrow which includes the option of a twice daily service between Perpignan and Barcelona. There are a number of options heading north too. I did a quick search on a ticket for mid July and was quoted £4. More info http://www.lindependant.fr/2015/06/01/barcelone-ou-co...

At some point in the year a form arrives which relates to the TV licence. If you have a TV you do nothing with the form and the licence fee will be charged at the same time as the taxe d'habitation. If you don't have a TV you have to opt out and complete the form to do so.

M6 - documentary on drug trafficking via the A9

We've probably all been stopped at some point by the douanes when crossing between Spain/France, so I was intrigued by this documentary on M6. have you tried searching just from Perpignan?

May 5th any good? If so, there are several to Beziers available on the afternoon of May 5, whereas from Elne there only seems to be one option.

Have you tried clicking on the red box, on the right hand side, which says Valider? (It only shows when there is actually a 1 euro ticket available)

That option keeps you within the 1euro train site and asks for info such as email address.

Which engine size/type did you take with your Sandero Stepway? Dacia certainly seems to come out well in mpg, although some of the UK reviews are a bit sniffy about performance on the motorway in terms of drive/noise. Advice on buying a car, please!

I'm now spending more time out in the PO and it no longer makes as much sense to hire a car every time. (This past winter I've been hiring at Girona airport for very reasonable rates - but the Spring change in flights will now mean flying in to France, and higher costs) So, I'm thinking of biting th...
