We were surprised how well attended our first one was and how much they enjoyed it. This is our fourth year now. I find the bits and bobs hardest to find here like chutneys, pads and decent naans. A curry ain't a curry without them all!!!

Going back to getting hold of spices, I have mine sent by SpicesofIndia. You soon save the cost of delivery on spices, pappadoms, pickles, chutneys and pastes.

We're making our annual Curry Night for the French in our village next month: they love it!!!

Several of my friends now go Caen to Portsmouth to avoid hassle at Calais or Dunkirk, or Zeebrugge to Hull having a night on the ferry, if going North. Depends what you want to pay and which side of the Channel you want to do more driving.

Thanks for that. We have an excellent Man-With-a-Van service near us but thought we might save a bit of money and also help someone out with driving etc. We'll just wait until son is actually qualified to ride this size bike and look again, probably in the New Year.

Van/trailer to the UK around mid December

Is anyone going to the UK with a van or trailer around 17th to 21st of December? We are trying to get a motorbike to as near Nottingham as possible. Happy to share driving and costs.

I have my teachers' pension converted and paid straight into my French account at a very good rate, too. I suppose that's because they must change such large amounts each month. I'm very happy with the arrangement and rate. No fees either, of course.

Wanted: motorbike for winter project

Looking for a motorbike that needs some TLC as a winter project. Does anyone have one in the back of their garage that's been neglected for some time? Any make or model but would prefer bigger bike, greater than 500cc.
Thanks.

Restaurant in Carcassonne

Strongly recommend La Merquiere in La Cite. Better to book but often surprisingly few customers. Wonderful food in a quiet courtyard that is an oasis of calm amid the mayhem that can be La Cite in summer!!! Check it on Tripadvisor. If you want somewhere cheaper and a bit quirky Table De Norbert is a...

Travel Insurance through C.A. Gold Mastercard

Can anyone give us information on this or has anyone experien...

Best restaurant in the world.

Carcassonne has a variety of venues-some free in Place Gambetta etc in the Bastide- and some stunning openair ones in the Cite itself. Others are indoor in theatres and auditoria. Well worth checking out next summer.

Proper corn flour totilla

Hi. I'm living up in l'Aude now so a bit further away from the Spanish border. Trying to get hold of some proper corn flour tortillas rathet than the "Old El Paso" type wraps. Is there anywhere down in the P.O. that stocks them, please? Or up here, if possible?
Thanks.

My neighbour just used www.parcel2ship.co.uk and it worked fine. A bit more expensive than parcelsplease used to be but about £20 for 30k I think.
Apparently parcelsplease have lost contract with UPS so costs have rocketed. Shame.

Parcel picked up near Nottingham Tuesday 5pm; arrived Aude 8.30 am today (Friday). Parcelsplease still ok by me.

Maybe a problem with initial pickup centre for some places.

The scenery is good but I'd suggest you just go as far as Mont Louis then get off to let the kids stretch their legs, have a picnic up near the Commandos Centre-maybe see them doing exercises-or a lunch in one of the little restaurants then get the next train or a bus back. The train actually goes f...

We have an English phone with English message so we really don't know which answer service they can be getting through to.

Everyone else, even cold callers, gets through.

I'm just starting to plant stuff for the first time.
Can anyone suggest a site that is good for getting answers to questions eg why are the leaves on my Lavateria going yellow?
I just know I'm going to have loads to ask about planting down here.

We moved out here with Steele's of Barrow in Furness who are always looking for loads to take both ways. Their rates are competitive and they are members of BAR.
