internet connection advice...

Almost 44 euro per month sounds very expensive. SFR offer calls and high speed broadband for 27 euro per month and 16 per month just for internet but no telephony. They charge 37.90/month for internet, unlimited calls to fixed and mobile and they include TV, only french speaking. Personally very ple...

booster for WIFI

A booster does just that, it boosts the WIFI signal. Therefore you/your daughter will get a stronger signal. It will not speed things up at allm so may be a waste of 30 euro? The speed is what it is. So if you pay for 5MB (Mega byte), you may actually get between 4 and 5 MB. That is speed, measured ...

Coming back to Girona from East Midlands, just after Christmas, I put my bag on the weighing belt. I was amongst the first in the queue. My rucksack was full of stuff. The pleasant woman pointed out that my bag was 1.4kg over and to immediately remove items. I smiled, and gave her my very best galli...

Strange gite enquiry

In conversation with a senior executive responsible for fraud (detecting it, not committing it) at HSBC some years ago. He mentioned to me that well over 50% of goods on sale on eBay were effectively stolen goods as were bought by people using skimmed/stolen credit cards. An easy way for them to gen...

satellite security....or lack of it

I did not mean to scare you. These sorts of activities are well known and detected by satellite operators and government and they happen almost all the time. I think this sort of community will tend to target government and banks in the main and probably not target the private individual. I suppose ...

satellite security....or lack of it

ARLINGTON, VA. - Satellites can bring a digital signal to places where the Internet seems like a miracle: off-the-grid desert solar farms, the Arctic or an aircraft carrier at sea. But in beaming data to and from the world's most remote places, satellite Internet may also offer its signal to a less ...

Where the best place for a novice skier to go?

I agree, good station for beginners. If at all possible try to avoid the french school holidays as it gets very busy indeed. I asked them the other day what their busiest period is and they replied 14-21 February.

I can only base this on my own experiences. I requested a cc from the UK dealer that supplied the Renault and no hassle or charges. That said, I can understand them applying a fee fo perhaps 20-25 quid but not 100+ which is not on.

I think UK is best bet for cc's.

Kathy, I suggest you get to the prefecture not long before they close, say 25/30 mins. This seems to help as they are forced to complete the job before heading home. I registered a german manufactured car and the certificate of conformity was in German. The person typing asked me some questions as h...

fallen trees and where to get replacements

If you want stuff cleared up I can help as I now have a pick-up truck. I'm just registering as a Micro-Entrepreneur with the CCI and call myself bois pyrenees. Supply of new trees I suppose will depend on what your Insurance Company says. Will they try and avoid coughing up by citing Act of God or F...

The RSPCA equivalent here is SPA. http://www.spa.asso.fr/ The site mentions legalities and it is worth studying as it sounds like this dog is being mistreated. I don't believe that they are as well funded as RSPCA but worth a try. Perhaps also talk to some of your other neighbours and find out more ...

M Sarkozy is acting unlawfully. Having asked my Advocat, he seems to agree that this discrimination is unlawful. There seems to be a lot of disinformation going around. It is my belief that The Haque Convention may be invoked by anyone. I believe that, as EU residents, we are all entitled to the hea...
