We intend to challenge, but only after we have got our money. Knowing frances lack of compensation culture though ( which in lots of ways is a good thing) I doubt if we will get anywhere. The notaire was very experienced, they have brand new posh offices on the outskirts of Prades ( no doubt paid fo...

Thanks Opas But as you know we are totally against all alcohol!!!!! Just heard from moneyCorp this morning that they now have the money but the notaire has neglected to send the reference so they can't pay it into our account until he does (its the rules because of money laundering). They are contact...

Just to keep you all informed. Both Mark and Louise telephoned us yesterday to say that the notaire has received the letter about the house being mortgage free, and has informed them that our money has been sent on its way!!!! Its not arrived yet, so will keep you all informed. Hopefully we will not...

Thank you all for your support. I would just like to say that we don't blame Med and Mountain for what has happened. I agree with Thumbers its the notaires fault, and no one elses. In fact far from blaming Mark, we are totally reliant on him to sort this out. We may well take Louise up on her kind o...

I agree John, it is much better to be on hand, but that only really helps if you have sufficient grasp of the language to be able to demand. As neither of us do, we are relying on Mark, who has to do all the arse kicking required.

The notaire has the money. Our immobiliers are MED and MOUNTAIN, and we asked Mark from there to contact the notaire and find out where the money was, that was the first indication he or we had about the out of date letter saying there was no mortgage on the property. He thought we had the money. Wh...

Well we have been told that the notaire will get the new letter this thursday, but I personally am fuming. If this was in the UK I would be on to the Law Society, but French lawyers seem to get away with it. My real concern now is when we will get the money. Meanwhile its earning interest, but not f...

Selling your house !!

Just to let you know pitfalls if you are thinking of selling your house. We got a buyer on 18th February this year and signed the first agreement on 18th March. We were told it takes about 3 months to go through. We had 2 days of "experts" looking at our village house because the young french couple...

Forca Real

I don't know how many of you have visited the top of this Hill that towers over Millas, but I walk up it at least once a week. Its a lovely walk and takes about one and a half to two hours on a well graded and signed paths. For those less inclined to exercise you can drive up and park just below the...

That is interesting, I don't think I have ever seen pear cider, although I have never really looked for it. The most famous Perry Cider is or was Babycham ( not sure if its still going). That said I have tasted normal or REAL Perry and I like it.

I don't think there is a difference, pear cider has always been called perry. I think it may have something to do with the variety of pear its made from.

I enjoyed the first novel, probably because I know many of the places mentioned. I just can't get into this one. I have a feeling Kate Mosse is on the Rick Stein programme when he is winding his way through France on the Canel du Midi. He stops off at the famous female British authors place for a me...

Hi, I think I have filled in forms correctly but would welcome advice. Arthur has a police pension taxed in UK and I have a government pension taxed over here. On the red form I have filled in my gross pension in euros on the pension bit under "conjoint" Then on the back page Under V11 Revenus Exone...

Nefiach is on the map!

Yes, we now have a yellow marked walk around the hills at the back of Nefiach. It takes about 2 hours and starts from the mairie. If you are thinking of trying it I suggest you go past the mairie, over the river and park opposite the picnic area. It is well marked and shows different trees and plant...

Actually, France has some good beers, but they are confined to the north. Its a surprise I know to many people, but Nord/Pas de Calais is beer country, rather an extention of the wonderful beers of Flanders Belgium. I suppose its has traditionally been a Northern European thing, but its good to see ...

The thing about dogs is that there are really no bad ones, only bad owners. Around here in our(very) Catalan village they wonder free and leave their poops all over the place. I think we are the only ones who ever pick it up. Anyway, sorry I am hi jacking your thread, 22 euros sounds OK.

Jon I agree its totally illogical. French wine is in big trouble already, you have only to see the number of vines laying neglected or grubbed up all over this area. We spent 3 months in the UK over Christmas etc and I was really surprised to see how the amount of shelf space for french wines has go...
