Re: Effects of Brexit in P.-O.

The comments above illustrate very well that Remainers and Leavers each have rational arguments for holding the view that they do. Trying to genuinely understand why an intelligent reasonable person holds the opposite view to you can be a life enhancing experience. You may find it life-enhancing: I...

Re: Effects of Brexit in P.-O.

“Hegemon” is a word, though more in Greek than in everyday English. So it’s not surprising that Graham uses it inaccurately. It refers to domination by one state over another: one thing that the EU has saved us from, whatever vices it may have. Even adopting Graham’s sense, you might think that Stal...

Re: Dutch Speaking Lawyer

By way of afterthought, do you really want a lawyer or a notaire? The distinction doesn’t really exist where I come from (the U.K.), but in France it divides the lawyers who do essentially formal things (writing wills, conveying ownership of houses...) from those who do “contentious” work, or at lea...

Not terribly surprisingly, “there’s an app for that”. According the French notaires’ website, there are thirteen in France. The nearest seems to be at Flayosc in the Var, only a few hours drive away https://www.notaires.fr/fr/notaire/murielle-cyferman Whether she’s any good, who knows. Flayosc wasn’...

Re: Where to purchase spirits in Perpignan?

If you really want to throw your money away on “boutique” gin, you might need to go a bit further than La Jonquera, which (happily) is still a bit pile it high and sell it cheap. A very ordinary supermarket I go to in Figueres has multiple brands at €30 and €40 a bottle: I am sure it is excellent, w...

Re: Small change converted shopping voucher

I missed the most obvious point. ceret2018 has indicated where they come from, but not whether they have an Intermarché in town, let alone one with a coin-counter. Céret might just as well be the dark side of the moon for most of us. For what it’s worth, I have one but not the other.

I would have guessed so too. But why guess when you can ask? Céret is not near enough to me to go there with a few kilos of change on spec, but it would be pleasant to have an extra excuse to visit in the cherry season.

I'm sorry it's a bit late but just to say that I appreciate Marina's comment. We all enjoy a pat on the back! Don't know about anybody else but we have loads of little tales of everyday life here in France. Since December we've had the saga of the hole in the road, why we did not eat our Christmas ...

I think you are maybe missing the point of reading things in translation. I’ve read much worse attempts done by humans.

I've no experience of having done this, but out of curiosity I thought I'd see if your costs were at all likely. It appears they might be right - if the car you're bringing in is new. I’m surprisingly close to the spec (discounting the nonsense about “2 1/2 baths” obviously), though I’ve no idea yet whether I’ll want to be not at home in the target weeks. But I wouldn’t consider doing it through Kate, much as I love and trust her. If you want to stay in my house, you can get off ...

Not really docteur, docteur and only funny if you are one of the 94 family. My father spent the latter part of the war as a gunnery instructor in a FFE unit in Madagascar. The weather is mild enough in PV today, given (as you say) that it’s December. The “rayons” at Intermarché are wearing a bit thin in places, but I don’t think you’d starve: meat fish veg and bread can be had where you’d expect. I haven’t heard of any problems with the trains.
