I have cashed some in. I wasn't disappointed.

Assurance Vie is different to UK life insurance and is roughly equivalent to a UK ISA. It is the principal means of saving money in France.

But for what your friend needs, this table might be useful

I bought the wrong mast 😒 Not had time to sort it out because I've been away. However, yesterday evening the speed stayed around the 5 mark and I watched UK TV on my ipad with no problems at all. Hope that indicates an improvement in the service and not just a one-off. Bouygues sent leaflets to t...

Sorry can't help on the main question.

Assurance-vie seems to be the standard way here. I have my money invested in US shares via this and have made about 6% in five months.

It also has the great advantage that you can leave the money to whoever you want.

I agree that the Corner shop is good. I got some excellent Wensleydale cheese from there. poundshop.com ship to France as well and yesterday they were offering 6 tins of Heinz bakebeans for one pound. Their offers never last long. I've now had the 4g box for several days. Some good news and some bad news. The upload speed stays consistently above 10, whereas before it was below 1. As somebody who earns my money on the Internet, this has been great. Dreamweaver is whizzing along. I also find Windows 10 much more responsive. Th...

I am afraid I don't have a landline phone so I couldn't test it directly. But I have been given an06 number for the box so I tried dialling that from my mobile and it didn't work. No mention of voip in my client area online.

I took the box to friends outside the village. They usually get under 1 with their Livebox. We got 13 with the 4g box.

Got my package from Bouygues and just tried it out. Speedtest is showing 10 with a slightly higher figure for upload, which is unusual isn't it? I haven't tested it for the best position- I just have it sitting on the sofa next to me. But this is a definite keeper for me. The box is Huawei LTE CUBE ...

Bouygues put leaflets about this in our postboxes on Friday. I also looked for a data limit but saw none. So I have signed up for the trial 30 days.

I have asked around Saint Laurent de Cerdans for news about the Internet but nobody seemed to know anything. So this was a pleasant surprise.

When I had a language school, we had about 15 TVs. As a company, we had to pay a livence fee for each one. Since we never used them to watch TV, we asked them how we could avoid paying this. They said that we had to remove the tuners.

So that confirms what has been written above.

Sfr

I was contacted by a marketer from SFR. I have my phone contract with them, because of the English football, but I no longer use their broadband because they couldn't get me a speed more than 1. I get 2 quite happily with Soosh. This person claimed that as a result of the recent tie-up with Numerica...

Dentist in Spain

A couple of years ago, I had some great dental work done in France. I was really pleased with the results but it cost about 6000 euros. Unfortunately, I now have big problems walking and a year ago I fell over in the street and knocked out and damaged all my teeth. At first I didn't want to get them...

Had my ALD taken away

I have been with the RAM since 1982 and have been at 100% for almost all that period, as a diabetic. Today when I went to the pharmacy to get my insulin, she updated my CV and discovered that I was no longer at 100%. Can anybody explain why this is? I am 66 but haven't taken my pension yet. I am up-...

Amplifying a bit on Tia's point about the Carte Vitale, depending on the medical condition, you can be left with quite a big bill if you go into hospital. Serious conditions are reimbursed at 100% but less serious ones at 80%. Very difficult to find a definition of these terms. Obviously cancer woul...

In every forum there are givers and takers. If the givers stop posting, the forum dies. Using emotive words like 'offensive' is quite wrong.

Martyn has a valid point and should be treated with respect.

I know Netflix is blocking VPNs. But I use SmartDNS and am still being blocked and told I am using a PROXY. I can get through by just restarting until it lets me in. Any ideas?
