If you have kept up to date with operating systems and have installed Yosemite (although that doesn’t sound like the Kate we know and love), this website has some useful tips on speeding things up.

Well, that took some time. I emailed again early this morning and got an instant, apologetic reply. The airport has only just received the timetable from their partner. Our navette for the Edinburgh flight is confirmed.

I expect this means the new timetable will be up soon.

We have once used the navette and train to return to Edinburgh from Beziers. It worked out fine. I emailed the airport a week ago to ask if there will be a service for the Edinburgh flight after March since, as mentioned, the timetable is only posted up to the end of March. No reply as yet but I wil...

The last one I organised was in the Strand. A few days later, a disturbed man cut his penis off in the middle of the restaurant in a very demonstrative way : so much for the safe alternative. It was one of the "Zizzi" chain: I know that I should not have found that funny. Just a linguistic point: i...

That's a shame about the Chat qui Rit Daphné. We really enjoyed our meal there, but as mentioned in the review, there was something lacking in the atmosphere.....smell, warmth.....Dunno what really cos the young waiter was lovely and the food was very good. But it was a 'menu' so the price was OK. ...

If I get this right, I just have to buy a house in the UK, and buy some kit there, and pay the tv licence, and the electricity bills and community charge and broadband, and I can have all the tv I want. Seems obvious once you think of it. No need to be sarky. Apart from wanting to say thank you pub...

UK TV - Success!

In the summer, I was asking about solutions to the disappearance of UK TV. Many thanks for the help I got from Dave and Allan in particular. We are now "sorted". We now have Belkin @TV (the same thing as Slingbox) hooked up to our TV box at home and are receiving all our VirginMedia channels in sunn...

Progress! The nice person came yesterday and installed a new aerial and so French TV is restored to full coverage. iPortal seems to give a better picture than the (free) Filmon and so we are trying it out. Also the football isn't blocked. Long-term, I'm looking at Slingbox as the solution to UK TV f...

Thanks for the advice which has helped me focus on the master plan. I won't change the satellite dish or flog the Humax box. Although much of what we still get from Freesat is rubbish, there is enough to merit keeping it. Also, I didn't know about getting catchup which sounds interesting. Filmon wil...

First no UK tv, now no French TV :(

OK, I know what has happened with UK tv here in sunny Baho (anyone want to buy a Humax box?) and am about to try Filmon from laptop to TV. That's what I expected. What I didn't expect was to arrive and discover we have lost virtually all the French channels that were available at Easter. Has somethi...

It is no chestnut, John. It's a very real consideration. I go back to an uncle who was a commercial traveller with Robertson's jams so there was never a shortage of golliwog badges when I were a lad - which I thought nothing of in racial terms; I go back to having enjoying the Black & White Minstrel...

We will soon be going out to spend the evening with friends (dinner and a murder mystery game!) so I'll take this moment to hope you all enjoy your Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) and see in the New Year in grand style.

With best wishes to all for 2014.

I'm being serious when I suggest you try Lidl for a not bad steak. They come individually wrapped and not visible (which isn't clever marketing I would say) but the ones we have had are fine. The quality has been consistent.

With a bit of luck it won't! The problem with that is that the whole point of this move is to improve the service in the UK.
