Re: Effects of Brexit in P.-O.

do you mind sharing your experience of getting the driving licenses? Did it take long? It was very straightforward, just as Kathy says above. It seemed to require a fair degree of detail checking/writing on the part of the Post Office staff, but I was walking out with the two licences within 10 min...

Re: Effects of Brexit in P.-O.

On a much more mundane level, I've just done my first 'post-brexit' admin. Heading over to France on April 9th, I've been holding off from getting international driving permits. But after what happened yesterday in HoC, I decided to bite the bullet - just in case we crash out of Europe on the 12th! ...

Re: A long shot

Glad you got the transport from the airport sorted.

Villelongue del Monts is a village some distance from the nearest beaches - probably at least 15 kms or so.

There are a couple of restaurants and I see Kate has sent you a link giving you more info about those.

Maybe this company can help? (Not a recommendation! I've never used them)

Or just google 'Argeles Sur Mer taxi' - that throws up several local companies

Where do you pay your income tax? France or UK? Re: A long shot

Sounds fun! I guess it depends on how much money they want to spend/save and whether they want access to cars during the stay. If the latter they could just hire cars at the airport. At the other end of the spectrum they could all do the entire journey to Argeles by public transport - or taxis from ...

I've no experience of having done this, but out of curiosity I thought I'd see if your costs were at all likely. It appears they might be right - if the car you're bringing in is new. Let's Eat France

Let's Eat France was on one of those top 10 foodie book lists of 2018. There were rave reviews, so I sent off for it. Curiously there were references to the weight of the book - all explained when it arrived. It's a 3 kg tome - so you can combine weight-lifting whilst indulging in a veritable potpo...

It's a while since I watched TV5 via the TV, but took a look at the website just now. On the top menu (the horizontal white one), click on TV This produces a drop down menu which gives you some good options - being able to select programmes as catchup, the tv guide, and the 'reception' tab will take...

Hi Reina,

welcome to the forum!

As someone who's full-time move to the PO has been held back by family needs back in Scotland, I confess to being envious of those who've made the move.

Sounds like 13 years here has been good to you! Have you got any tips on how best to integrate?

Remembering the problem before the update, when much historical data seemed to have been lost, I decided to try a few searches. It's certainly accessing posts made way back in time - scary to ...

But I also meant to add that I seem to intermittently lose some of the options from the Quick Links Drop Down menu - both on iPad and macbook. Sometimes they're all there, and sometimes they're not - only the last four options show i.e. from Active Posts downwards. Or do you have to be logged in to ...

Re: UPDATED FORUM NOW ON LINE. GIVE IT A GO.

I've just taken a look on my phone (android) - it looks great. Very easy to read... The alternating use of the coloured background really helps separate one post from another. And the grey background to a 'quote' is a nice touch too.

In fact, I think I prefer the phone!

I use an 11in macbook and the font size was huge - as was the top banner, pretty much as Allan describes above. It you had “ivreâ€￾ and “au secoursâ€￾, and maybe the mot de cambronne when you were a bit older, you were pretty much good to go.
I did indeed have the 'mot de cambronne' in my vocab pretty early on... though I have to confess to googling what that actually meant having read your post Martyn.

I'm amazed I haven't come across that as a phrase before (or maybe I have and just forgot)

But thanks for using it - I still love learning new phrases and origins of words.

Hi Jenny, just in case you don't get a response - there's always Flixbus.

There are 5 buses a day which stop at Girona Airport and then Perpignan. The fare is around £14

There appears to be one at 14.15 which might suit you

Interestingly the French version of information about parking says:

Les abonnements et forfaits sont à souscrire le jour d'entrée au parking.

My reading of that is that if you want to take advantage of long term parking options you have to do it on the day you plan to leave the car there.
