Re: Is data protection killing the web?

I've used Firefox for years and find it suits me well. I had a play with Google Chrome a while ago and it works just fine on my laptop (running Linux Mint) but I couldn't see any advantage in changing.

I also have an aversion to all the stupid 'targeted' adverts for whatever I have been looking at on the net even after I have bought something.
I find that the Firefox addon "uBlock" does a very good job of removing spurious adverts.

Post brexit you will only be allowed to stay for 90 days in any 180 days.
That depends on what form Brexit takes and what is agreed thereafter.

Last time I bought a car here it was from a dealership and they organised it all. As it is an offence to drive without the carte gris in the vehicle that seems to be the best way.

Re: Car in France

Unless things have changed recently, if you own property here there should be no problem. A utility bill or tax d'habitation bill will be sufficient proof of address. Best to ask at the Prefecture though.

Helen's link should help. For information on cartes de sejour (before Brexit) try this link; http://66.accueil-etrangers.gouv.fr/demande-de-titre-de-sejour/vous-etes-ressortissant-e-de-l-ue/ As I understand it, if you spend more than half the year in France you are considered to be resident here and...

Well, in February we've already had maximum temperatures higher than those on average for April so I guess we are likely to have higher temperatures than average. However with global warming kicking in there are likely to be more extreme events :x

Re: UK ‘Not Allowed’ to Leave the EU

This thread is about the Soviet Union of Europe. That's a bit extreme Graham. The EU is a democratic entity. The biggest problem IMHO is that many members are apathetic and don't bother to take part in the decision making processes. They then blame "The EU" for making decisions that they don't like...

Glad you are sorted. I don't know where you are located but we've found that Reha Team in Perpignan are very good for all sorts of accessories for the handicapped. You will be entitled to a new wheelchair every three years if the condition is permanent.

Yes, any pharmacy. They can order one to fit your requirements. If the user has a carte vitale he can get a prescription for the hire from the doctor and the charges will be covered.

Looks to be excellent value. Were you able to get any reimbursement from CPAM or mutuel?

Their website is a bit poor at present and they don't offer as many options as established online sellers like https://www.glasses2you.co.uk/ but guess they will expand.

I used to pick up my paper copy at Carrefour Market in Ille-sur-Tet but since it has changed hands they don't seem to distribute it. Is there anywhere else in Ille or perhaps Thuir where I could find it?

My gripe is that despite telling them my exact annual consumption, they insisted on asking a whole host of irrelevant questions and then coming up with a supposed monthly consumption that was at least 50€ a month less than it would actually be. Unfortunately they are not used to dealing with cust...

Is your tax reduced by the financial advantage, or is it just allowed against the amount on which you pay tax? It is allowed against the amount on which you pay tax, ie, credit d'impot. You don't have to claim it. CESU pass the information on and it seems to be automatic. The employee will pay tax ...

You're supplied with the "cheques" which you fill out and return. It's somewhat simpler now. You can pay in cash or with your own cheques and you then declare the payments on the CESU site. Cesu charge you the social security through direct debit. Depending on the service, you get income tax relief...

Irish passeports

If anyone's considering applying for an Irish passport before Brexit you had better do it soon.
I applied for mine just over five months ago and it arrived yesterday. I have never stepped foot in Ireland but my father was born in Belfast so I qualify.

Unfortunately Jethro, that only applies in the case of an overall agreement being reached. If there is a "no deal Brexit" then all bets are off, although one can hope that something similar would be put in place some time later.
