Driveway renovation

We’re looking for a reliable company to scrape off the thin layer of gravel on our driveway, lay a suitable membrane to prevent weeds & put down a good layer of new gravel. Any recommendations?

Re: Architect/structural builders

At our builders' suggestion, we're looking for what in the UK would be a good structural engineer, to advise on a relatively narrow issue concerning weight-bearing in the structure supporting a roof terrace. Does such a person exist in the PO, or should we be looking for an architect or a 'structura...

Re: The Yellow Peril

I agree with Allan. Watching from afar in the UK, and putting aside the violence of recent days, it seems that the police have just stood by and permitted the GJs to delay people on the roads for hours or even days wherever and however they like, all in the name of 'making themselves heard' with the...

A friend of ours had a good experience with Flixbus last Saturday evening. She took a bus non-stop from Girona airport ( the bus station is next to the main terminal)to Perpignan bus station (right next to the railway station). The bus (a comfortable modern coach) started at Barcelona, continued to ...

I haven't tried Chateau de Corneilla, but I agree with what you say about Lafage. Two other pluses with them are that they are now also stocked by Carrefour and sell much of their wine, if not all, in screw-capped bottles.

Indeed. The pilot on our flight from Edinburgh to Carcassonne on 5 December attempted two landings through a very low cloud base, circling for over an hour in case the cloud burned off in the sunshine (it didn't), before diverting to a sun-drenched Perpignan. To give Perpignan airport and Ryanair du...

For anyone interested, the various Pyrenean WWII escape routes are the subject of a relatively recent (2013) book by Edward Stourton, 'Cruel Crossing - escaping Hitler across the Pyrenees' , published by Doubleday. Well worth a read.

Thanks, Helen, I overlooked the re-start of the Edinburgh service. Very good news indeed.

Does anyone know whether there's lots of long-term parking currently available at Carcassonne airport? There was construction work going on last time I was there.

Dimidu, very good to see mention of Edinburgh for possible flights to or from Carcassonne (there were summer flights a few years ago) and Perpignan. Flights between Beziers and Edinburgh this summer seem to have been full every time we have travelled, and some of this is due to a strong flow of Fren...

I agree that HOP has always seemed expensive in the past but our HOP tickets for December only cost 65 euros each, which isn't bad (till you convert it to pounds!) Another fly/train option worth checking for feasibility is Edinburgh/Lyon with Easyjet and then the train through Montpellier to the PO ...

We also come down to Roussillon from Edinburgh. Last winter we did Edinburgh-Stansted-Carcassonne with Ryanair, but when we come down in December, we are trying out the direct Ryanair flight from Edinburgh-Barcelona (dep 06.30 are 10.10, but several other airlines also offer this route), then gettin...

Cestlagreve.fr and the press are reporting yet another national general strike in protest at the Loi Travail, for 15 September 2016. Presumably there's a risk that the French ATC will again join in and that Ryanair will be looking to make lots of cancellations.

Assumimg you mean the main restaurant at ground level, rather than the bistro on the 1st floor (which is open air), we've always liked this restaurant, It's traditional and quite formal, with not a lot of English spoken, but it has very good food, including their fish dishes. We've always stuck to t...

The only direct flight from Scotland to the area is Edinburgh/Beziers with Ryanair. This is summer only at the moment. Twice a week on Wednesday and Sunday. Alternatives (you've no doubt thought of them) would be to take the Beziers airport navette to Beziers station (or Agde) and then take the next train to Perpignan; or hire a car one way to Perpignan. Might be cheaper than €250.
