We visited L’Olivier this week. Lovely setting, friendly service and great food. We had some tapas for starters, dishes like feves menthe coriandre, caviar d’aubergines, champignons citrons confit. I think others available were pan tomate bouquerones, tapenade, escalivade, salade patates, ail & oreg...

Please remind me about breathalyser law

Hi all, I see there are adverts in UK sunday papers today about the law that you must have unused NF approved alcohol breathalyser in cars in France. (Since 1 July 2012) I had this notion that this law was repealed. Am I mistaken? Can someone please clarify what the position is and where do we go to...

I have been using one of these in Amelie les bains for nearly 2 years now and it is great. BUT you should check the signal strengths where you are. I only use the free wifi component becasue there is a good connection to a nearby signal/household. You need to look for local wifi signals - I am not i...

Less is more? New Mackintosh Trail

I am looking forward to visiting the new Mackintosh exhibition at Villefranche. http://www.crmackintoshfrance.com/crm-centres.html But am confused about their pricing structure: Entry to Fort and interpretation centre • with minibus shuttle € 7 • without minibus shuttle €10 The priveledge of walking...

I'm intrigued by the statistics. People in UK will know that supermarket prices are completely skewed by offers, And a large proportion of wine is bought in supermarkets. So when a wine supposedly priced at £9.99 is sold half price at £4.99. Does that fall into th £9-£10 a bottle category or the £4-...

Yes it has been going on for a couple of years now in the UK. I don't fully understand it, but they use similar technology to "Help Desk" staff in large companies to whom you give permission to access your computer to sort out problems. All very legitimate and good. The guy who phoned you will be do...

No lets go off topic. I have recently asked an artisan sausage maker in deepest Ayrshire Scotland if they they would make me some Merguez, (suffering from withdrawal symptoms) and you can't find them in the shops around here. They have asked for a recipe - can anyone provide a link to a good merguez...

Just to confirm what Allan has said. We went this SFR route and are 9 months into our two year contract for 10 euros a month. It is brilliant and slashed our holiday internet costs by 60% or so. Just ensure that where you are in your home you see "SFR WiFi Public" in possible wireless connections, t...

Yes it's going to be very awkward without Girona. We have found flights Liverpool to Carcasonne for the winter to use instead and will have have to put up with paying hotel cost as its an early start. Also the more expensive French car hire over Spanish costs. Should still be better than the grief o...

Just to draw a line under this thread in case people still think such options are possible. It cannot be done with the SFR 3G dongle contract. You cannot even share your username and password with yourself! It will not get you access without the USB dongle. Unless the dongle is attached to the compu...

rhys - you should also check out if there FON hotspots near your place in the PO because if they appear as available wifi connection on your computer and you are a BT customer in the UK then you could get wifi for free.

From the Amelie tourist office.
There is no public wifi accessible system in Amelie.
There is a cyber base in the Place de Republique.
That's it!

3G infrastructure will be upgrded apparently in November this year but that's not partularly helpful unless prices come down.
